Afghan cleric defends marital law

A top Afghan cleric who backs a law that critics say would allow marital rape has dismissed the outcry the legislation has generated in the West.

Mohammad Asif Mohseni on Saturday accused Western critics of trying to meddle in Afghan affairs and insisted that the law offers women many protections.

The law states that "it is essential for the woman to submit to the man's sexual desire" and says a husband can demand sex with his wife every four days, unless she is ill or would be harmed by intercourse.

The law also regulates when and for what reasons a wife may leave her home alone.

Barack Obama, the US president, called it "abhorrent" and Navi Pillay, the United Nations human rights chief in Afghanistan, called for the Afghan government to revoke the legislation, saying it was "reminiscent of the decrees made by the Taliban regime".

Oh. The husband's right to sex with his wife to prevent zina is abhorrent? Or is it just the Islamic laws that regulate our lives that's abhorrent to the ignorant you?

By the way, makes me wonder. They (Afghan lawmakers) spent three years debating this law. Talk about priorities. I'm putting myself in these people's shoes.

US drones waiting to blast me into smithereens because for all their smarts, they can't differentiate between civilians and the "terrorist bogeymen" (maybe its the "bogeyman" factor, speaks for itself, no?...see, blast the hapless Afghans into tiny shards of flesh, so no one can actually determine if the babies and women and old men were brandishing AK-47s or rocket launchers or just foraging for food)
10. Opium addiction
11. Bawling kids, hungry, sick and unable to go to school or play
12.Homelessness
13.30 people in a 4 X 4 tent
14. Unwashed bodies aka body odor

All these factors...would definitely put a damper on my sex life (yeah, yeah...but this is hypothetical and based on any sane human being's order of priorities).

Freud must be feeling vindicated in his grave. It's always about sex. Even in war. Dick measuring, ego (aka dick) stroking, and unfulfilment (of men's desires...who cares about the women coming first...pun intended) leading to aggression.

That's what one rocket scientist once told me.

Obama, I think there are bigger concerns for you in Afghanistan than getting all worked up about some women getting laid by their own husbands every 4 days and having their movements restricted (after all, thanks to you guys, Afghan women can't simply pop over to the store for some donuts and milk for their kids in their SUVs like 'em Yankee women do in down home yonder in the good ole US of A, in relative security, because they risk getting waylaid, not in the way we women desire, by the bunch of renegade outlaws/hoodlums you created, roaming the streets of Kabul and elsewhere).

Hey! Wait. Why isn't there ANY debate on the wife's legal right to getting some according to ermmm...hormonal requirements when it comes to the less than frisky husbands?

Hmmm... I guess one can't force an erection, but you can get a woman to put out while eating kuaci or while her eyes are glued to the latest crappy episode of "Desperate Housewives".

This other problem definitely requires raising in Parliament, Mr Cleric, sir!
