Terkini! Lagi Tragedi Kampung Pisang!

In a not unexpected turn of events, the kangaroo courts of Kampung Pisang found that a Mongolian woman (who never entered the country as no record of her entering the country ever existed) had somehow blown her own brains out at pointblank range and then proceeded to have carefully placed C4 explosives (acquired on eBay from Kampung Pisang military surpluses) on her dead body (via astral travel) and blasted herself to smithereens, all the while managing to plant evidence implicating her ex-lover and some VIP's protection officers and indirectly, the VIP himself.

Whoa. Brilliant woman.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

Have you men not learned? Don't mess with women's hearts (and with your marriages).

Yeah. It will all blow up in your faces. And then you run like sorry dogs, hiding behind your wives (or partners) skirts, tails between your legs.

Those poor jilted and humiliated women then get sweet revenge by blowing themselves up and dragging you men into it and blaming you innocent sods for it.

Yes, we know it was all those women's fault for falling for you sweet-talkers. You men were just being friendly lah. You are also beset by sudden (selective) amnesia. Or possessed by some unknown force, autodeleting (selective) smses. (Like those sent by you, convenient eh?). Sigh.

Poor bastards. (The men, I mean).

And then there are the women who actually stand by these men.

Go figure.

(A commenter on one blogger's pad actually said that the death of this woman was "kes kecil". One wonders what has become of human beings. Would he feel the same if it were his daughter?)

I just LOVE this post :

Papan tanda Jalan Yab Kid Siang by Khabar Lewat Kawat

The Heart Has a Mind of its Own

I have always believed that the heart has a mind of its own.

Know the feeling? When your heart lawan taukeh and refuses to follow the brain? We often think that the brain is the ultimate command centre. It isn't. Why does Allah continuously refer to the heart instead of the brain in the Quran?

Excerpts from online sources:

"Verily in this is a Message for any that has a heart and understanding or who gives ear and earnestly witnesses (the truth). (The Noble Quran, 50:37)"

"That is because they believed, then they rejected Faith: So a seal was set on their hearts: therefore they understand not. (The Noble Quran, 63:3)"

"Or do those in whose hearts is a disease, think that God will not bring to light all their rancour? (The Noble Quran, 47:29)"

"Of them there are some who (pretend to) listen to thee; but We have thrown veils on their hearts, So they understand it not, and deafness in their ears; if they saw every one of the signs, not they will believe in them; in so much that when they come to thee, they (but) dispute with thee; the Unbelievers say: "These are nothing but tales of the ancients." (The Noble Quran, 6:25)"

"... God might test what is in your breasts and purge what is in your hearts. For God knoweth well the secrets of your hearts.(The Noble Quran, 3:154)"

"And that which is (locked up) in (human) breasts is made manifest- (The Noble Quran, 100:10)"

The word qalb in Arabic means heart as well as intelligence
In the Arabic language the word ‘heart’ is also used to connote one’s centre of understanding.

In the English language heart means an organ in the body which pumps blood. The same word heart is also used for the centre of thought, love and emotion. Today we know that brain is the centre of thought, love and emotion. Yet while expressing emotions a person is likely to say "I love you from the bottom of my heart". Imagine a scientist telling his wife, "I love you from the bottom of my heart" and the wife replies, "Don’t you even know the basics of science, that the brain is responsible for the emotions and not the heart? In fact you should say I love you from the bottom of my brain."

When brain cells are put in a petri dish, they die. But a heart cell continues to beat, until it goes into fibrillation ie: beats too wildly and dies. But put two heart cells together, beating separately and they soon start to beat in tandem, sending out a message to each other. Kinda explains the intricacies of human emotion, doesn't it?

I found this great piece on the heart/head connection. A bit technical, but worth a slow read to understand ourselves.

A bailout by any other name is just the same...

Valuecap to buy out "undervalued" companies using (borrowing) RM5 billion of the already "straining to make ends meet" people's EPF retirement fund...(yup, use us poor sods monies, keep all of your personal multimillion dollar nest-eggs somewhere else, safe and sound like in Australia, Cayman Islands, Jumeirah properties...can I borrow one million from you UMNO fellas...want to make quick kill on forex..then I give you back, I promise)
RM5 billion capital injection into Valuecap viable, says Nor Mohamed
KUALA LUMPUR, WED:

The government’s move to inject RM5 billion into Valuecap Sdn Bhd, the government investment agency, to buy undervalued stocks in the local bourse is a viable investment, Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop told the Dewan Rakyat today.

He said this was based on Valuecap’s growth and its higher profit between 2003 and now. Valuecap’s portfolio had grown from RM5 billion initially to RM8 billion now. Full story.

Cuepacs says gomen cutting 50,000 jobs in civil service because got no money...

300, 000 Malaysians in Singapore face retrenchment...Human Resource Minister says no problem...can put them to work here... gomen also pokai already meh...how to pay

"Dr Subramaniam said that many of the Malaysian workers in Singapore were unskilled and employed in the manufacturing sector.

Asked about whether the ministry had a contingency plan for such a situation in Malaysia, he said that Malaysia would have excess job vacancies as work presently being done by foreigners could be offered to locals instead."

Like what? Sweepers, construction workers, mamak restaurant helpers, maids? So what will become of the hundreds of thousands of migrant workers here...cari makan by robbing the locals through sheer desperation?

Sorry..nothing constructive I can offer here...just voicing my unsolicited thoughts as usual.

Decisions

I have three months. Less than three actually. To make a decision.

"Women who are divorced shall wait, keeping themselves apart, three (monthly) courses. And it is not lawful for them that they should conceal that which Allah hath created in their wombs if they are believers in Allah and the Last Day. And their husbands would do better to take them back in that case if they desire reconciliation. And they (women) have rights similar to those (of men) over them in kindness, and men are a degree above them. Allah is Mighty, Wise." (Al-Baqarah: 228)

If we decide on reconciliation. It would have to be on his terms.

What terms would that be?

Forced to swallow the bitter pill of betrayal day after day and pretend that things are normal?

Normal was us being a family. Normal was me knowing where you were. You knowing where I was. Knowing that you were thinking of me, wherever you were, whatever it was that you were doing. You knowing that I worried if you were working too hard. If you had your lunch. Or dinner. If your things were ready for your next important trip.

Normal was knowing that whatever it is, you would be coming home to us and that we were a family.

Normal was us laughing and fooling around with the kids on the bed when you came home.

Normal was planning our future together, Planning for that corner in the garden where you could enjoy your coffee with me. Normal was planning for the day when you could retire and we could finally spend time together.

Normal was when we felt that bond, that connection even when we weren't together.

Normal was when you called me more than twice a day when you were overseas just to hear my voice.

Normal was when you hated to travel overseas because you missed our babies.

Normal was when you smsed me, "I miss you and the kids".

Normal was when you smsed me, "I can almost see your face at the office, I wish I could come home..."

Yes, you really loved me then.

When you asked me to marry you, I didn't believe in love anymore. But I was taken in by your sincerity. You didn't have a sen on you. You weren't God's gift to womankind. And I wasn't perfect either. And we were on two different wavelengths. My friends were surprised when I married you. We were so different.

But it was enough.

Just the sincerity was enough for me.

Your love was enough for the both of us.

Even though you were never there for me the times I needed you, it was enough.

Now it isn't normal anymore.

There is a stranger in our lives.

This stranger has torn us apart.

The love that I felt is not there anymore. The bond that holds this family together...love, respect, trust, loyalty, presence, mutual goals...is gone.

Coldness, repressed anger, disappointment, resentment, stilted conversations, barely being able to look at each other (when we never used to leave each other without an affectionate hug and kiss)...that is normal for us today.

I can't FEEL that love that I used to feel reaching out to me from wherever you were and with whomever you were with. And while doing whatever it is you were doing.

That isn't normal.

You know what I mean. Don't pretend you don't. You feel it somewhere else now. (What a satisfaction for that someone...)

How can a marriage continue when one party is drifting aimlessly in a separate universe from yours?

How can we keep the family together when we are already so far apart?

I can't be the sacrificial lamb so that you and her can be together and you can have your family here.

I remember the mamak restaurant owner sharing something with me, "Akak, saya kalau isteri sakit, saya jaga sama dia dengan anak2. Hati dia pun mesti mau kena jaga. Macam mana isteri saya mau jaga anak2 saya dengan baik kalau hati dia susah? Isteri mesti mau kena jaga baik2". A simple man he was, but very perceptive.

"You ni tak bersyukur dibela selama ni, diberi makan minum...tak cukup ke?"

I AM NOT A DOG YOU "BELA". I AM A HUMAN BEING. I AM A WOMAN. I NEED MORE THAN FOOD AND WATER.

EVEN A DOG NEEDS LOVE AND AFFECTION OR IT TURNS AND BITES THE HAND THAT FEEDS IT.

You wanted seven kids.

We had two.

And the two have suffered enough.

The adults are all selfish, self-serving, pathetic excuses for humanity.

Our eldest said when I asked her what SHE wanted...she said,"Umi, I just want whatever makes you and ayah happy."

I only ever wanted you and your baby sister to be happy, darling.

I am sorry you do not deserve such parents.

May Allah take your hearts, my dear babies, in His Soothing and Healing Hands and Keep them in His Care.

I need more that to just "dibela". Though I am grateful for you to have "bela" me all this while, I guess you just won't/can't give me what I really need.

Because you can only love one at a time as you belatedly found out.

I am tired of being the punching bag when polygamy gets too be too much for one man.

You don't have to say it. I can simply see it and feel the resentment and your burden, as you can feel mine.

I guess at least one woman will be happy with my decision.

Ah, the crocodile sheds her tears of sadness for all...

If I were a boy...

Virgin Teresa

TERESA KOK,

Aiyah...I tell you woman...you never listen meh. Sue Utusan, sue Chamil, sue Syed Ali, now want to sue the Tempe Beauty Secret pin-up himself, Khir Toyo (no, saya bukan kutuk ustaz J, tapi dia sendiri mengaku).

If you cannot tahan the Kamasutra calisthenics of UMNO-style realpolitik, you must stick to the tried and tested stress-free missionary position (and I mean the Christian missionary activities...bukan the horizontal one...oh I do love wordplay)

Or...do I detect some 'dirty tricks' up a virginal sleeve?

Hmmm...stoke here, stoke there, stoke everywhere...

GO BACK TO WORK LAH.

Maybe MB Khalid should tell his exco to focus on serving the people who elected her?

Or has he lost his voice?

I though you people were all for freedom of speech and democracy?

Sigh..sigh...WHEN NOT IN POWER CAN TALK KOK, BUT WHEN IN POWER, LUPA DIRI DAN JANJI (eh, a bit like love..but then love, husbands and politics are crappy...)

LIM GUAN ENG, talk to this woman will ya?

Never heard him whine when unjustly detained under ISA during ops Lallang and even when jailed for almost 3 years for daring to protect an underage rape victim.

Teach her a trick or two? No, not THAT kinda trick, Betty won't be pleased.

Sistem kebajikan yang "welfare"?

My friend came over for Eid the other day, and she was telling me about her disabled brother.

He had been receiving RM80per month from the Welfare department (just to ensure that the disabled get like what...80/30 equals about RM2.70 a day just to keep you alive..who cares that you live by the roadside or under a bridge or in a reban ayam, which many of our citizens still do as we have read in the papers). He wanted to apply for some new scheme under which he would receive RM300 per month. Ok, good enough...keep him alive longer...cukup makan (again who cares if he stays in a reban...).

The joke here is that since he sent in his new application for the new scheme, THEY STOPPED HIS RM80 payments until his new application pulls through, which will take about 3 months.

In his case, he is lucky to have his sister to help him through, but the point she was trying to make to me was that "what about those who are all alone?" What will they eat for the three months or even more?

And I heard that single mums can receive RM100 per child per month in assistance, but only up to 4 kids!! Funny ain't it? I'm not sure how true it is, but if it is, then it is a big joke. What about those with more kids whose husbands left them high and dry or maybe just died? The syariah courts as it is make their lives miserable in the case of alimony payments, and this only adds to their misery. Not everyone is fortunate to have an extended support system or a thriving business (like some "poor" divorcees I know). What about THEM?

What can RM100 buy nowadays, anyways?

The travesty of it all is the amount of wastage (and diversion into undeserving pockets) of public funds which could be diverted to help these mums, the disabled, the elderly and the helpless in a much more efficient manner to lessen their burdens.

Therein lies the anger of the people... the lavish display of extravagance by leaders who show no signs of repentance as many continue to struggle daily.

SILENTLY.

Oppression of Single Mothers in Malaysia

I had intially closed my blog after I found that some one I loathed was reading my blog and passing crappy judgments, but then I thought, what the hell. She doesn't have the grey matter nor heart to speak out, and I am not going to deny anyone the truth of what I feel is important and should be brought up, no matter what they think of me. Like I care? Yeah, I am not perfect, but then who is? Oh...sorry...YOU are?

Only those who matter like my kids, my TRUE friends and my blogging buddies here know what I am all about. I came across this paper which I felt so accurately presents the dilemma and sufferings of single mums in Malaysia. This person mentioned above was a divorcee when some one so gallantly "rescued" her at the expense of his own family's happiness. She was left with a thriving business and no kids upon being divorced, and was "rescued" so swiftly, so for her the issue I am highlighting does not apply because someone like her can afford to sit back and smile at the carnage inflicted on other women by her ilk.

The following paper by Puspa accurately reflects what a MAJORITY of Malaysian especially Malay/Muslim wives abandoned, widowed, polygamised unjustly or divorced face after the fact. Islam has enshrined women's rights so beautifully and justly, but it has been abused, used and distorted to feed the patriarchal and chauvinistic appetites of Malay men/leaders/lawmakers et al for their own benefit.

Senaman Tua

I was supposed to start my Senaman Tua exercises again today, but a sudden guest dropped by...so I guess I can only start next week.

My bro Nadzrin introduced me to this art, and he gave me and my kids personal training until we learnt all the moves...but as always, when on my own, I get LAZY. So when I heard that the guru himself Azlan Ghanie, was holding classes in Setapak on Wednesdays and Saturdays, I was so glad, coz all the body parts have been rearranging themselves after a hiatus in my exercise regime starting from Ramadan...haha...

The moves are graceful and measured, but after two hours, you feel like you had a really great workout....

Read all about it here, at Nadzrin's Silat Melayu the Blog and Senaman Tua blogspot.

The Great Malaysian Blast Off!!!

5, 4, 3, 2.... we have BLAST OFF!!!

This top-secret grainy picture taken by a tigress shows the Malaysian Soyuz KLCC-13 Spacecraft blasting off into space this morning at 7.30am Malaysian time, from the Golden Triangle Cosmodrome in a successful transfer of technology programme between the Russians and the Defence Ministry.

The Soyuz KLCC-13 is expected to reach the International Space Station in two days, carrying a payload of has-been, worn-out and past expiry date politicians from UMNO, MCA, MIC, DAP, PAS, PR. Some Hindraf operatives were also found to be hiding in the payload bay, but it was too late to abort the mission.

These cosmonuts will be staying on the ISS until food (with a special last request by a Cocky Woman for Telur) and air runs out and by then the Russians will have to eject them into space, adding to the increasing space litter. We hope that the human litter will not come down back to earth or collide with spacecraft and satellites causing further damage to humankind.

"In 2007, the space junkyard grew by more than 100,000 pieces. That’s more than any other year since people started launching satellites into space. The problem of space junk is not going away, and scientists are watching closely."

Read more here about the growing problem of space junk (hopefully the political litter will incinerate upon reentry...)

Should Malaysia guarantee bank deposits?

A very significant question. I read Tan Sri Ramon's take in the Sun. This is from the Star (I don't fancy that lallang editor WCW, but some issues raised remain pertinent, especially this one)

Should Malaysia guarantee bank deposits?

AS governments around the world are rushing to guarantee deposits with their financial institutions in the wake of a spreading financial crisis, the question is if Malaysia should follow suit — and when.

If Malaysia decides to do so, it won’t be the first time. During the Asian financial crisis of 1997/98, there was a significant shift of money from local to foreign banks, which were perceived to be safer than the local banks.

To stop the situation from worsening and to ensure that local banks had sufficient deposits to provide enough liquidity for their banking activities, the Government gave an assurance that deposits with local banks were safe. Savers were assuaged and the shift dwindled.

Now we are in an ironically happy situation — relatively speaking that is — where many people perceive local banks, because of their lack of exposure to the US subprime mortgage crisis, to be stronger than some of the foreign ones.

It may be just too early for the Government to think of giving another such assurance to depositors right now since the banks here are little exposed to the credit and lending crisis overseas and their critical ratios all still look good.

But there is no harm in giving some deep thought to the issue, especially since it is central to the health of a financial system. If depositors lose confidence in the financial institutions and withdraw their money, liquidity will simply dry up and lead to a total collapse of the system.

Right now, there is a deposit insurance scheme in operation. This is sponsored and supported by the Government under Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia or PDIM, the deposits insurance body. Under the scheme, each account holder per bank is insured up to RM60,000 in the event of bank failure. This covers the over 90% of depositors who have RM60,000 or less in deposits per bank.

But the amount of deposits covered is a whole lot less than that because the large depositors in the system are government bodies, corporations, partnerships and businesses, each of whose accounts can run into the millions.

Many of them will maintain just a couple of accounts and it would be too much trouble and too little benefit to spread it over 36 banks and gain an insurance coverage of just RM2.16mil (36 times 60,000) under the current deposit insurance scheme.

Under the PDIM scheme, RM191.5bil of deposits were insured as at Dec 31, 2007. But the total deposits as at the same date with commercial banks in Malaysia amounted to RM821bil. That means less than a quarter of total deposits are insured.

While the scheme is good for ensuring that the bulk of depositors is protected in the event of bank failure, it does not insure the bulk of deposits in the system. Thus, the deposit insurance scheme that Malaysia has is one that protects small savers but is of little help when it comes to problems that can affect the entire financial system — more than that is required to stop a systemic failure.

So far, contagion has not resulted in severe disease yet. The financial system is sound. But if the economy slips into recession, and output of goods and services contracts as worldwide demand falls, things can get sour here. And if there is a severe fall in property prices, it will worsen things.

And then there are peculiar problems in guaranteeing bank deposits — there could be a surfeit of deposits from overseas coming in here to take advantage of a government guarantee.

Conversely, if neighbouring Singapore decides to guarantee deposits, there could be an outflow of funds from here to there if we do not follow suit.

Yes, it may still be a bit premature to talk about guaranteeing all deposits in the banking system. But it is clear we must continue to watch the situation very closely and, if it is time to give that assurance, we simply must.

P. Gunasegaram is managing editor at The Star. He does not believe that one solution fits all.

I certainly do not think this is a premature time to talk about it. In fact, might be already too late in the game. So we better see some action NOW. Preemptive measures as opposed to our natural Malaysian inclination towards knee jerk reactions. Problem is with transparency. If at all the government has a gameplan, we will never know. Najib is probably too busy now with the Eurocopter investigation. Ah, btw, the PAC is headed by Umnoman also..a bit like asking the wolves to jaga the ayams?

Read HERE and wonder about that "smile" Azmi gave...I always misread smiles, but then maybe I am "perasan" like some people say...this "smile" however, makes me smile cynically in front of my trusty Acer...

What happened two days before Eid?

According to him, "what you always wanted, kan?"

The end of a union. Talaq. Divorce.

No, that wasn't what I wanted.

Anger is funny. It masks so many things. Especially deep hurt, disappointment, frustration, tears, memories.

Anger at how easy it is for someone who begged you to marry him to save his life, to just betray your trust and loyalty of almost 18 years (13 I guess, since the last 5 were a write off) and get on with his life as if yours never mattered, as if what you shared never mattered enough to fight for.

Anger at how easily hugs and kisses turned into blows and curses on the mother of his own children.

Anger sustains you from giving in to the tears and deep wound in your heart and just curling up in bed and waiting for the Angel of Death to come get you and finally stop the pain.

Anger is a funny thing.

He couldn't see past my anger.

Because she was already in the way.

He couldn't even see the disappointment in the little ones eyes at his prolonged absences.

He couldn't see the 1825 long days and endless nights that passed without his calls and smses, affection and love that used to sustain me.

He just saw, sees her.

Must be a really hot piece of ass.

That ass who was Satan disguised as a friend.

I know. There must be something better around the corner that I can't see yet.

In His Infinite Wisdom, He Plans.

But making it to that corner is just such a feat in itself sometimes.

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

I was talking to my bro Nadzrin over the YM.

About what happened.

And then he said it.

"The opposite of love is not hate. It is indifference."

There. Now I know why it killed me.

The total emotional indifference.

What happened two days before Eid, was the culmination of 5 years of indifference.

Go to hell, you.

Just

GO TO HELL.
(not you, my bro)

Najib...Economic Buffers or Buffoons?

Najib says:

Malaysian economy has buffers

By V.P. SUJATA and LESTER KONG

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia’s economy has the capacity to weather the destabilising consequences of developments in the US economy and international financial markets, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Stating that the country’s economic fundamentals were strong, he added that Malaysia’s international reserves were high at US$119bil with a large current account surplus.

(yeah, mebbe we can use the reserves to give out welfare payments to unemployed Malaysians to feed their families eh?...)

Reality says:

Prepare to lose jobs in Singapore

Tuesday October 14, 2008
By NELSON BENJAMIN

SINGAPORE: The 300,000 Malaysians employed in the island republic have been advised to gear up for retrenchment if the country continues to slide into a recession.

Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam said that although the technical recession experienced by Singapore has not yet translated into unemployment, it was better for Malaysians to be prepared.

“If there is unemployment due to a recession, our workers will be hit,” he told The Star here yesterday.

“They need to work on retraining and acquiring new skills to ensure they have jobs during such times.”

He said that Malaysians accounted for about 30% of the foreign workforce in Singapore.

Dr Subramaniam said that many of the Malaysian workers in Singapore were unskilled and employed in the manufacturing sector.

Asked about whether the ministry had a contingency plan for such a situation in Malaysia, he said that Malaysia would have excess job vacancies as work presently being done by foreigners could be offered to locals instead.

According to economic data released by Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry, the island republic will be the first Asian economy to fall into a technical recession.

A technical recession is generally defined as two consecutive quarters of contraction in economic output.

Dr Subramaniam, after an hour-long meeting with his Singapore counterpart Gan Kim Yong, said they had discussed various issues.

On instances of Malaysian workers being cheated in Singapore, he said that the Malaysian High Commission had received 1,250 complaints within the first nine months of this year.

Dr Subramaniam added that there was something wrong with the recruitment mechanism and the ministry would have to check on the matter.

Orwellian Nitemare on Pisang Street...

Hmmm...a little bird just saw with her own little beady eyes, how those crooks holding onto Kampung Pisang Tanduk intend to do a Big Brother ala Orwell on the hapless denizens of the banana republic (it isn't really a republic, but horses are king you see to the crown prince)...

It scared the shit out of the little bird...a page out of the handbook of the United States of Terrorism...and out of the Chronicles of Bladimir Puting...

Has its pros and cons...but as always, when used by the Cons, it will remain a con...

But shhhh....ok? Just between the birds...

RM30,000 HANDBAG??

I had coffee with my good friend and neighbor this evening, after our meeting with the devious developer of our houses who cheated us...but who then found out that he was dealing with YOURS TRULY. I sneaked a letter to his Tan Sri boss thru his wife about us going to the papers and meeting with the relevant ministers and MPs (including that handsome Wee Choo Keong), and he got whacked in no time.HAH! Baru tau...tapi perjuangan masih belum selesai beb...don't piss me off Mister Gary...you know that now, dontcha?

Anyways, my friend showed me her new handbag...which cost...get this... RM30,000!!! WTF! I can understand she moves around in the elite circles (except for moi, her non-elite friend) and has expensive tastes, and earns her own dough...but 30k on a bag...I almost passed out and wanted to whack her with it. The bag I mean.

RM30,000...what I could do with 30 grand...and she carries it on her arm...

A BAG??

A BAG?????

Was one of those Hermes special edition what Perkins or something...

Who gives a hoot!

Apparently the elite do, she said...hahaha

And I thought RM100 even was too much for one...

ALL QUIET ON THE MALAYSIAN FRONT?

Is the Malaysian economy so well insulated that we hardly hear any news about how Malaysia intends to weather this global financial/economic typhoon?

It sounds eerily quiet.

I read about how Sweden rode the banking crisis in the 90's by swift, bipartisan decisions made in consensus with the opposition. They stuck together in public and fought their political battles behind the scenes in order to save the nation.

But our politicians, what are they doing?

We have seen the world economies take a beating one by one. The US is currently our largest trading partner, and as it is, our E&E exports are already down (can't find that report I read). I am no economist, but the US's death throes will definitely drag us down with it.

We have yet to see any announcement of proactive measures by the MOF. Najib has been issuing statements that 'EVERYTHING IS A-OK". Ad hoc, band-aid solutions ARE DEFINITELY NOT GONNA WORK THIS TIME AROUND.

TELL THAT TO THE REGULAR WAGE-EARNER AND BUSINESSMAN (one who actually does business without the benefit of patronage and bailouts, that is).

Anwar seeks budget review after crisis
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim said he will call for a review of the country’s 2009 budget when parliament reconvenes today, saying it had become “obsolete” in the face of the global financial crisis.

The former finance minister told reporters yesterday the Barisan Nasional government, which announced the budget in August with a higher budget deficit, was in denial about the effects of a near breakdown of the world’s financial system on Malaysia. Anwar’s move to question the government’s financial management may bring him face-to-face with Najib Razak — the current finance minister and successor to the Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi — who now stands in his way to take power.

“One of the first things would be a review of the budget figures, most countries have done that, including Singapore. We need to do that as an urgent matter,” said Anwar.

“Of course, this does not seem to be the direction and policy of the present government, including the finance minister. We cannot work on obsolete figures.”
In August, Abdullah used the budget to cut personal income tax, pay more to pensioners and spend billions of dollars to improve food security and rural infrastructure in a bid to soothe angry voters stung by the rising living costs.
Spending was expected to push the budget deficit to 3.6% of gross domestic product in 2009 and 4.8% this year, way above the government’s earlier targets.

Anwar, who vowed to overthrow the government, promised to revive the South East Asian economy, which lost some of its attractiveness as an investment destination to faster-growing regional rivals.

He insisted that he has won over enough defectors from the government to form a new administration. But an earlier self-imposed deadline of September 16 passed and his calls to recall parliament for a confidence vote were denied.
The 61-year old former deputy premier denied news reports that he planned to seize power just before an important Muslim festival in early December.

“I have not set any dates as yet. All the foundations are in place,” Anwar said. – Reuters

A FINAL PLEA TO A DEPARTING PAK LAH...

I was reading Laila's blog today, Merah Hitam, and I could sense her growing desperation and frustration at her husband Mat Sah's continued incarceration in Malaysia's Guantanamo Bay at Kamunting (and God knows where else).

I have spoken out against ISA many times and the need to release the detainees or give them a fair trial. Many of us have. Zorro especially, walks his talk. My first blog post in my previous blogging foray was about the story of Laila. I have even written to Tun personally to get him to appeal for the detainees via his Perdana Peace Foundation which claims to speak out against crimes against humanity. But I did not get a reply.

I first heard about Laila through my daughter, Nursakinah, who was her student. Before this, many of my friends' husbands were already held in that hell hole of no return for unproven crimes of terrorism.

My daughter was distraught after hearing why her teacher had to leave her school...to focus on releasing her husband full-time. She came home and cried and told me how angry she was at the injustice. She hated this ISA she said. "What can I do, Umi?". I told her she could write to the Prime Minister. I did not know the best way to reach him, and so I contacted Rocky, and asked if he would post her letter on his blog, as I did not start up my blog yet at the time. And he did.

I would like to repost her letter here, written in February 2008, ( I love you, Sakinah btw, for who you are...your heart, your soul, your courage, YOU), in my own blog , as a final appeal to the departing Prime Minister, Abdullah Badawi to release ALL ISA detainees, or give them a fair trial:

( I have lost my listing on MYCEN and Malaysiakita after closing my old blog, so I do not know if I could reach who I want this letter to reach...I just pray somehow, that he reads it)

From an 11-year old whose beloved teacher has lost her husband to the ISA, for 6 years now.
Rocky's note: This letter has been mailed to Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, the Internal Security Minister responsible for signing documents that have sent scores of people to detention without trial, the latest being the 5 Hindraf leaders. The little girl's name has been changed for this posting, for obvious reasons.

Kepada YAB Perdana Menteri Malaysia Dato' Seri Abdullah bin Hj. Ahmad Badawi, semoga berada dalam jagaan Allah SWT selalu.

Assalamualaikum,

Saya, Sakinah, pelajar sekolah swasta tahun 5, ingin menulis surat tentang guru saya, Cikgu Norlaila.

Setiap hari, ayah saya balik, tetapi ayah saya selalu balik lewat malam kerana banyak kerja.

Saya doa Allah lembutkan hati tuan Perdana Menteri supaya membebaskan suami cikgu.

Jadi inilah tujuan saya menulis surat ini. Saya berharap agar tuan melepaskan suami cikgu kesayangan kami supaya anak cikgu dapat hidup bahagia seperti keluarga saya.

Yang benar,
Sakinah
Warganegara Malaysia

The forgotten...

I took these photos this morning...wanted to take them for some time now.

This man asleep under the flyover exchange near Melawati/Wangsa Melawati is mentally ill. I often see him pushing his pram all the way up along Jalan Jelatek, a very busy, soon to be multi- lane highway. I worry for him. While we are sound asleep in our comfy beds, taking our sanity even for granted, he sleeps here...
This woman makes her home nearby, by the side of the road also at Wangsa Melawati, as the pictures below show. She often cooks too, making a small fire for her pot of rice. I think she is also mentally ill, or just homeless. I am not sure. Could be the latter because she sometimes gets is half dressed like this. I guess she earns some money washing the pavement in front of the Cosway outlet near where she crashes. I haven't seen where she sleeps, but from the looks of her belongings in the next two pictures...by the roadside too.

I am tempted to call Welfare Services, but at the same time, I can understand how they would feel being ripped away from their routines, their familiar surroundings and their scant belongings...I really don't know what to do.

There is a third guy who walks for hours along Jalan Jelatek and Keramat Permai with a little pair of scissors...cutting the grass by the highway.

I do not know if he has a home...but he must be so exhausted...walks non-stop from morning till nite.

What defines sanity? Or insanity? People like these...are they insane? Or just helpless? What about those who are deemed sane, but murder, loot, rape, bomb and torture and hurt other humans, or break their hearts recklessly?

Who is really insane?

All I know is that there is a fine line between sanity and insanity...We can go either way, anytime.

Nur Jazlan: Let the younger ones lead
By : Sajahan Abdul Waheed

KUALA LUMPUR: The young ones should be the leaders of Umno if members truly want to rejuvenate the party, deputy president hopeful Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said.
The Pulai Umno division head said it was obvious that the party had failed to attract the young.

Nur Jazlan (picture), 42, who surprised many in the party by declaring his candidacy, said Umno required young leaders to strengthen the party and help prepare it to face the 13th general election.

"We should accept the fact (that the young do not support Umno) and work towards making changes.

"Unfortunately, over the past six months, I feel that nothing much has been done and we have yet to learn the lesson (of the general election)."

Nur Jazlan said the younger generation felt that Umno was not relevant to them, and this was dangerous.

"The problem is that Umno leaders are not in touch with the younger generation. My intention (of contesting the deputy president's post) is to represent the younger generation and show them that we in the party listen to and appreciate their views."

Nur Jazlan said he felt Umno's deputy president must be someone who was relatively younger than the president.

"That is why I am offering myself as there are some potential candidates who are older than Datuk Seri Najib Razak. I do not think that is right.

More here.

Nur Jazlan was my senior at high school. A qualified accountant and two-time MP. I thoroughly agree with him. That it is time for younger, newer blood to course through the higher echelons of UMNO. The old guard seem to have difficulty seeing through the message of the 12th GE, and nothing much has changed. They are still out of touch with the rakyat and the changing needs of the people and the country.

I do hope that he will however, be able to shed the closeted thinking of UMNO and look beyond mere "ketuanan" rhetorics at the larger picture and speak for all the people and push towards looking after the needs of all Malaysians. I also hope that he will be brave enough to strive for real reforms within UMNO and in the administration of the nation.

Ultimately, we need a real leader and manager...not a mere politician. We had enough of those.

Go for it, Nur Jazlan.

(A Muhyiddin Yassin/Nur Jazlan ticket sounds good to me)

I want to write...

about something...again. I don't know what yet...but it will come.
