My friend came over for Eid the other day, and she was telling me about her disabled brother.
He had been receiving RM80per month from the Welfare department (just to ensure that the disabled get like what...80/30 equals about RM2.70 a day just to keep you alive..who cares that you live by the roadside or under a bridge or in a reban ayam, which many of our citizens still do as we have read in the papers). He wanted to apply for some new scheme under which he would receive RM300 per month. Ok, good enough...keep him alive longer...cukup makan (again who cares if he stays in a reban...).
The joke here is that since he sent in his new application for the new scheme, THEY STOPPED HIS RM80 payments until his new application pulls through, which will take about 3 months.
In his case, he is lucky to have his sister to help him through, but the point she was trying to make to me was that "what about those who are all alone?" What will they eat for the three months or even more?
And I heard that single mums can receive RM100 per child per month in assistance, but only up to 4 kids!! Funny ain't it? I'm not sure how true it is, but if it is, then it is a big joke. What about those with more kids whose husbands left them high and dry or maybe just died? The syariah courts as it is make their lives miserable in the case of alimony payments, and this only adds to their misery. Not everyone is fortunate to have an extended support system or a thriving business (like some "poor" divorcees I know). What about THEM?
What can RM100 buy nowadays, anyways?
The travesty of it all is the amount of wastage (and diversion into undeserving pockets) of public funds which could be diverted to help these mums, the disabled, the elderly and the helpless in a much more efficient manner to lessen their burdens.
Therein lies the anger of the people... the lavish display of extravagance by leaders who show no signs of repentance as many continue to struggle daily.
SILENTLY.

I'm Sorry for those Mums and the Kids... but we really had no Choice. We needed the money for "Real Things" like Purchasing the Subs..The Choppers and with the Balance we sent a Man to Space...I'm sure the Hungry Mums and the Starving Kids could understand that our National Agenda is more Important than its People.
My Apologies ....
Yes, I know you are sorry...I guess you will show your sorrow by telling your wives/mistresses/dead mongolians to cut down on the London/Dubai shopping by one less Prada or Birkin bag this year, eh?
