KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - HIV carriers should not be allowed to marry, in order to avoid having sick children, a top Malaysian politician was quoted on Monday as saying.
"Somebody who is very sick like that should not be allowed to get married," Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, chief minister of northern Perak state was quoted as saying by New Straits Times newspaper.
"If there's any breeding, sorry for having to use that word, the embryo will also carry the same virus. So that is even more unfair because you are actually passing that disease on to the child."
He had been asked to comment on a statement by an official of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia that Muslims who test positive for the human immunodeficiency virus, or HIV, would still be allowed to marry.
An aide to Nizar, who is a member of the opposition Islamist party Parti Islam se-Malaysia (PAS), said the minister was referring to both Muslims and non-Muslims.
Breeding? Embryo? What? Are these people sub-human? Yeah, you SHOULD be sorry for using that word. Ever heard of condoms, Nizar? Those 007 thingys they put in full view of everyone at the checkout counters at 7-11s nationwide, to encourage your kids to loudly inquire when there are 10 people behind you...What is that ah, Umi? Laterlah I tell you. Why, why later? Coklat apa tu? Kenapa gambar tak pakai baju? Laterlah!
(btw...why those corny soft porn pics ah, targeted at the more visually stimulated men?...maybe to get one in the mood as he is casually buying roti Gardenia or a bottle of Pepsi for the young 'uns, and have him thinking of sex all day, only to return to the 7-11, buy the darn condom pack and call Happy Massage services or cruise the backlanes because wifey is too tired?
Now if they put up a picture of Husam on the condom packs lecturing on the evils of fornication like one of those mandatory "rokok membahayakan kesihatan" labels with the pics of 'em blackened lungs...it could have the opposite of the desired effect on some people...)
Or maybe we should encourage the HIV positive to have illicit sex and spread it around even more?
Could MB Nizar be mistaking HIV with full blown AIDS with his "very sick like that" statement?
Here is an excerpt for him from the Kids' guide to AIDS and HIV:
Many people (not just kids, but adults, too) don't really understand how HIV and AIDS are related, even though they hear these two words used together all the time.
HIV stands for human immunodeficiency (say: ih-myoo-nuh-dih-fih-shun-see) virus. AIDS stands for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. HIV is actually the virus that causes the disease AIDS.
HIV Hurts the Immune System
People who are HIV positive have been tested and found to have signs of the human immunodeficiency virus in their blood. HIV destroys part of the immune (say: ih-myoon) system. Specifically, it affects a type of white blood cell called the T lymphocyte (say: lim-fuh-site), or T cell. T cells are one type of "fighter" cell in the blood that help the body fight off all kinds of germs and diseases.
After HIV enters the body, it piggybacks onto a T cell and works its way inside of that cell. Once inside, the virus completely takes over the T cell and uses it as a virus-making factory to make a lot of copies of itself. The newly made viruses then leave the T cell and go on to infect and destroy other healthy T cells as they continue to multiply inside the body. After the virus invades the T cells, they can no longer properly fight infections.
Someone who is infected with the virus is called HIV positive. But it may take years for the virus to damage enough T cells for that person to get sick and develop AIDS. And thanks to new medications, someone infected with HIV can stay relatively healthy and symptom-free for many years. But these medications are very expensive and not available to everyone in the world. (Maybe we can focus on this point here? Cutting edge research, anyone?)
What a field day for the Wong Chun Wais of the world....

How did you read my mind?
I read a newspaper cutting the other day about an increase of HIV in Malaysia.
I was wondering siapalah nak tulis an article, clarify plus refresh my info of HIV.Selalu dengar pasal HIV tapi never betul2 register in the mind whats the difference between HIV and Aids.
All I know kalau that fello dah ada HIV,he/she is doomed to die of Aids!
Ada medicine for HIV?Ingat belum!
Whatever the reasons behind Aids, the main reason is berzina berpuluh kali dengan ramai partners and through sharing of needles by drug addicts right?Through blood transfusion tu dah kira 'hard luck and innocently infected'!Ahhh..tu paling kesian!
Sharing minuman and makanan no kan?
Ni lah..malas nak google info.Nak suruh orang tulis kat blog..haha
Taklarat nak baca.So detailed and meleret2.Last2 lupa most of the info by the end of the lengthy explanation on HIV and Aids.
Thus you have managed to summarise roughly the difference between HIV and Aids..saya faham dah CIKGU!!Roarrrrr!!
Kalau tak,baham je lah!!hehe
mamasita,
dengar kata nyamuk pun boleh spread virus apa...depa kan injek pakai jarum sama...betui tak ;)
hehehe...hysteria nanti...

Masyaallah! Kita yang nak bayangkan pun terasa perit... dia yang menanggung lagi lah.
Every time baca akhbar Msia online, I cringe when they touched on certain issues. Dah la facts pun tak betui, they are very bombastic pulak tu. Siap dengar gambar terpampang...
Naz,
malaysia online yang mane eh?
kesian kan the lady? I hope she and her kids are being taken care of now. wonder if she has duit for her HIV meds...
What more can we say or do to 'enlighten' them ahli syurga yang dah telampau pandai sangat? That's why it's bloody difficult for PAS to make inroads into the general populace. That's why the Majlis Agama Islam Negeri2 become a laughing stock in their own so called Negara Islam. Them half-wits most often than not don't know what they are talking about. They don't do any research. What they knew, or thought they knew, they read it from their own publications and periodicals, written by pea-brained radicals, skull caps on them heads 24-7 notwithstanding.
Janggut panjang sedikit, lilit serban sikit, tambah celak di alis mata untuk efek, rasa dah pandai sangat.
Fortunately Cik Tehsin punya mata air, En Husam is not one of them. Hehehe.
This Nizar is a highly educated man -engineer. I'm suprised he spoke that way. Maybe it's because he spends his life working with machines?.
Pity 'cos I expected something better from him.
Kesiannya. There's no excuse for ignorance lah ... pihak yang sepatutnya bertanggungjawab should get their facts straight. But that's (some) Malaysians for you ... bila ada power sikit, berlagak macam bumi ini dia yang punya!! Doesn't their high-handed attitude just make you so gerrrrammmm?
I hate it when politicians speak before they think. Sometimes I guess they don't even think at all. If only they'd do some homework before opening their big mouths...
One of my HIV clients who's also a volunteer SMSed me after reading Nizar's comments - asking for my opinion. Imagine how he felt being looked down as such by his state leader...
To Mamasita, ada HIV medication to help suppress the virus but for the moment there is still no known CURE for HIV.
Tarings,
You got that right...and mencurah2 air mata also...sob, sob.
Tabs, Queen, Pi bani,
I think he is ignorant anout the whole issue/disease. Notice how he said "they are very sick"? There's a dif between HIV-infected (the stages involved) and full blown AIDS, no?
Sis Bani, take a read at A Tabib's blog...maybe you could offer suggestions since you are closely involved with the issues?
